How to create the ultimate haircare routine to pamper your hair

Everyone’s hair is different—and it all deserves some love and pampering! As many of us spend more time inside in the winter, now is the perfect time to establish (or reestablish) a haircare routine that revives your tired locks, boosts hair and scalp health, and gets you and your hair ready for spring.

Here are some tips to establish the ultimate regimen to bring out the best in your hair.

Tip 1: Establish your hair type

Thick, thin, curly, wavy, textured, fine, bleached, dyed. Your haircare routine will depend on your hair’s texture and thickness, so getting to know your hair will help you in the next steps.

Tip 2: Wash and nourish

Once you’ve determined your hair type, it’s time to pick a shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is thick and/or curly, choose a shampoo and conditioner that offers more hydration, like Solutions by Great Clips Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. And if your hair is on the thinner side, a shampoo like Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi Shampoo can help add volume.

Tip 3: Determine how frequently you should wash

How often you wash your hair should be determined by how quickly your hair gets oily. Washing too often strips natural oils from your hair, so if you have thick or curly hair, you want to keep those natural oils locked in and therefore wash less frequently. If you have thin hair that gets oily faster, you’ll want to wash more frequently to avoid clogged pores and oil buildup. On non-washing days that are starting to feel a little greasy, pick up your dry shampoo to help keep your hair looking fresh.

Tip 4: Lock in that moisture

Leave-in conditioner is your hair’s best friend. It locks in the moisture from your shampoo and conditioner, leaving it shiny and soft for longer while also protecting it from heat and the elements. Seal in that hydration with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair & Body Moisturizer

Tip 5: Get frequent trims

Nothing pampers your hair like getting rid of dry ends. Visiting your local Great Clips salons for more frequent trims is a great way to keep your hair healthy and maintain your look. It also gives you the perfect opportunity to ask your stylist about product recommendations to bring the pampering home with you!

Tip 6: Take a look at your scalp

Now is the time of year when you may see some flaking on your shoulders. Yes, it’s dandruff season and now is the time to combat it. If your scalp is feeling itchy, it’s time to implement a dandruff solution, like the Solutions by Great Clips Tea Tree line, into your routine to nourish your hair and skin.

Tip 7: Add some shine, texture or both

If you haven’t embraced styling products as part of your routine yet, you may be missing out on a key opportunity! A cream, pomade or serum could be the ticket to give your look a boost. We love American Crew Fiber, Solutions by Great Clips Men’s Molding Paste, Sexy Hair Curling Creme for styling and Healthy Sexy Hair Love Oil for some extra shine.

If your hair could use some pampering, Great Clips has you covered. Give your haircare routine an upgrade and head to your local Great Clips salon for tips, tricks and product recommendations from our hair-pampering experts!
